IS PLASTIC SURGERY RIGHT FOR ME?
Cosmetic surgery has many benefits and offers dramatic results. Dr. Mausner believes that you will be a good candidate for a cosmetic procedure if you:

  • Understand the limitations as well as the benefits of plastic surgery. No surgery can achieve perfection and there is no guarantee that the results will look exactly as you envision them.
  • Have realistic expectations. Cosmetic surgery can reshape your body, not your life. Although an enhanced appearance after surgery may improve your self-esteem, it will not solve career, marital or emotional problems.
  • Time your surgery when you will have adequate time to heal and there is both physical and emotional support available.
  • Be prepared to tolerate some discomfort during and after surgery as well as the possibility of scars or other side-effects.
  • Plastic surgery has risks. Discuss complications and risks with Dr. Mausner before surgery.
  • Understand that cosmetic surgery is not right for everyone. For those under the age of 18, you will need your parents consent.

You may also want to call the local hospital and ask the Medical Staff Office secretary whether a surgeon has privileges to perform the proposed procedures in the hospital. Dr. Mausner is on the staff at Suburban Hospital, Suburban Out-Patient Center and Sibley Memorial Hospital.

CERTIFICATION OF THE OPERATING FACILITY
Even fewer people know about certification of operating facilities, who certifies them and what protection such certification offers. We believe patients need this information to make informed choices in their search of the right surgeon, surgery facility and anesthesia provider. As you consider plastic surgery, we hope the following information will help you to evaluate the available choices to you.

At the present time there are no local, state, or federal laws requiring office-based operating room to be certified. Any physician may perform any procedure in an office as long as basic fire and safety codes are met. No level of sanitation, patient care, monitoring or peer review is required. Unfortunately, tragic consequences have occurred because of faulty equipment, lack of trained personnel and inadequate emergency equipment. As a result, there will most likely be requirements imposed in the future, but for now certification is purely voluntary. We believe that these circumstances make the best case for having surgery in a hospital setting.

Dr. Mausner only uses Medicare-certified, state-licensed state-of-the-art operating rooms for surgery. These are located at Suburban Hospital, Suburban Outpatient Center and Sibley Hospital.
